Description
Following on from our very successful intercooler for the RS3 8v chassis, the Forge intercooler for the TTRS (8S) chassis builds on our reputation for delivering cores that offer real-world increases in power and temperature drops. Whilst the 8V chassis shares many components with the TTRS 8S, the space available behind the bumper is a different shape and the crash bar has also changed. This required a whole new intercooler and crash bar setup for this latest chassis.
The TTRS core is a huge 640x250x100 and of bar and plate design. This gives it a huge 56% more surface area than stock, and an even more impressive 94% increase in volume. The end tanks are made with integrated pipes in order to retain the stock boost hoses, though you can also replace the hoses with our FMKT024 boost hose set if you so wish. Just like on the 8V chassis, we supply a genuine Audi TTRS crash bar which we modify in house in order to accept the new larger core, then finish both the crash bar and core in our standard black crackle finish powder coat for maximum longevity.
As shown in the graph above, for both tests we let the car heatsoak on the dyno until the radiator fans tripped on and off (which gives an inlet temperature of 36°C), then did a dyno pull from there. This gives a more consistent result and reflects real-world driving conditions more accurately. You can easily see the Forge intercooler cools much quicker and delivers a much greater drop in temperature compared to OEM.
On the stage 1 car we tested on (with map and exhaust modifications), it made 470.5 bhp with a peak intake temperature of 76°C. With just this intercooler fitted and no other modifications, the same car made 520.8 bhp with a peak inlet temperature of 34°C, a gain of 50 bhp and a drop of 41°C. Gains on stage 2 mapped cars will likely be even more impressive as the stock intercooler core really starts to struggle on just stage 1 mapped cars.
The kit contains everything needed for installation including full fitting instructions, which should take around 3-4 hours.

The core cools the charged air from the turbo before it enters the engine and the OEM BMW tube and fin intercooler is designed to support low boost levels and air flow. When tuned, airflow and boost levels are increased significantly. This causes the OEM intercooler to heat soak and reduces HP and increases the chance of pre-detonation. We remedy this problem with our proprietary, high density bar and plate intercooler core which utilizes a staggered and offset internal and external fin pack. The VRSF HD core has been carefully balanced to provide the the best intake temperature reduction while maintaining minimal pressure drop. The VRSF HD core is also much more durable than the OEM tube and fin core, with a better ability to withstand rocks and other debris. The VRSF 5″ Performance HD & 6.5″ Competition HD Intercoolers are comprised of an incredibly dense fin pack both internally and externally. It’s not uncommon to see intake temperatures drop at the end of a 3rd gear pull due to the larger overall internal and external surface area. You can expect to see an intake temperature reduction on a stock turbo, full bolt on car during a 3rd gear pull which is why the VRSF HD is THE best option for your N55. Please note that the HD fin pack is now standard at no extra charge! The VRSF 5″ Performance HD is capable of supporting up to 600whp whereas the 6.5″ Competition HD is capable of supporting up to 800whp.Installation & ConstructionWe include everything required to replace the OEM intercooler. All VRSF intercoolers feature tabs that allow the retention of the factory fan shroud and our CFD optimized cast end tanks are designed to work with both the OEM intercooler piping as well as any aftermarket charge pipe that adapts to the OEM FMIC. After each intercooler is pressure tested, we then apply a thermal dispersant coating which ensure a leak free experience along with superior protection against the elements. | Boost Cooler water injection can achieve a power increase of up to 10-25% in turbo and supercharged engines without thermally overloading the engine. The charge air temperature is lowered by up to 60°C, the combustion chamber is cooled and the thermal load on already tuned vehicles is effectively reduced.
Water or water/alcohol (methanol or ethanol) is injected at high pressure into the hot charge air in a finely atomised form as soon as the desired starting charge pressure is reached. The evaporating liquid achieves an extremely effective charge air and intercooling, which, among other things, prevents uncontrolled combustion ("knocking"). The effect is demonstrably comparable with 116 octane racing petrol.
The Boost Cooler is unsurpassed in atomisation! The liquid is swirled inside the Hyper-Sonic atomiser nozzle at supersonic speed before being forced through the Venturi orifice. With the included Dual Stage Upgrade, 2 atomiser nozzles are used to inject as early as possible with the primary nozzle and to achieve maximum cooling and performance in peak loads with the switched-on 2nd nozzle.
